      Payroll Administrator Interview

      15 Oct 2021
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Edmonton, AB
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at Pizza Hut (Edmonton, AB) in Oct 2021

      Interview

Made it through on-line testing then a female called for a phone interview. She shared a very long company tree in a disinterested, monotone voice then asked me to tell her why I applied and my skills background. I was honest and said I have noticed many companies are thrilled with my background but get turned off when they realize I am in my 50's and hopefully this company was different. Before I could even start with my education/experience that would make me a good candidate she said "I don't think you are a good fit" and "I don't think you would be challenged in this JUNIOR position", "I know you have done the work for many years, but I don't think you would be happy never moving up to the controller position - because we already have someone in that position". I was stunned since she also claimed they were looking for a very solid, experienced team to take them into the next 10-20 years!. When I expressed that I applied for a payroll position, not a controller position as I not looking to climb the corporate ladder "again" but that I wanted to be part of a strong team, long-term. Her voice went very odd sounding (like when a teenager is saying OMG did she really just say that, eye-roll included) and asked if I had any more questions. She refused to listen to my future career path but instead "Told" me what she thinks it is. Clearly I wasn't getting that job simply because I am too old and stupid at 54....but a MAN with 20 years experience is classified "AN EXPERT" with companies fighting over him!!! Can everyone say "DISCRIMINATION" or as Human Rights calls it "Ageism". So I emailed this female back and told her if this is how this organization treats potential employees, then I would not like to see how bad they treat actual employees. I also reminded HER that SHE too will be 50+ years old someday and she just set the tone for herself to be classified as "useless in the workforce" in the future. The saddest part of this experience is that I can work circles both intellectually and physically around this person. My guess is she is a family member of the corporate owners so wouldn't know reality in the workforce anyway.

      Interview questions [2]

      Question 1

Describe your background? Then she asked if I had any questions after she already cut me off when answering her question, insulted me asking why I wanted such a low-level position (she made it sound like I applied to scoop dog feces off the street as an Accountant). Never been humiliated for having intelligence, extensive experience, and not being 25 years old before applying for work. Extraordinary world we live in!!!! Never eat Pizza Hut anyway, the food quality is sub-standard in the "health" department.

      Question 2

I would like to ask Pizza Hut's 3 owner's how they would feel if every "useless 50 and over person" stopped eating at all the Pizza Hut, Taco Bell, KFC business they own? Think you might have different opinion of "useless" they are then?
