Interview
The first step is a HireVue where you record videos and then when you're done recording all of the videos they get sent to HR.
The second step if you pass the HireVue, you get to do an interview with Software Engineers and they do a behavioral + technical.
I applied online. I interviewed at Principal Financial Group in Feb 2026
Interview
The first round was a HireVue. Got it after around 2 weeks of applying to the position. It had 12 questions - a mix of video answers and text answers. Each had unlimited attempts and prep time. It was standard behavioral questions - tmay, why principal, etc.. Then I got a final round after 4 days of submitting the hirevue. The final round was a mix of behavioral and technical. The behavioral part had very common questions like tmay, challenge faced, feedback and how you responded to it, current project, etc. The technical part was a live coding program but it was a simple question and not exactly leetcode style - probably easier than a leetcode easy. I didn't do too great but talked through my process and the interviewers will give you lots of hints and let you google syntax. Then I got the offer after 3 business days. It was an email to schedule a phone call to "share an update". Scheduled it for the next day and got the offer via call today!
What project/work are you currently working on? (They dug a little deep into this and asked about tradeoffs and challenges but I didn't have a great answer for one of them and they were still chill about it)
I applied through university. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Principal Financial Group (Des Moines, IA) in Nov 2025
