      Department Manager Interview

      2 Aug 2025
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Colorado City, AZ
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at REI (Colorado City, AZ) in Aug 2025

      Interview

They use iCIMS to conduct video interviews. Questions are on a timer - you get 3 "takes" then it advances to the next question with no option to go back. if you aren't good at recording videos of yourself, good luck! If you're comfortable on camera, you'll be fine! For me, when I see the red dot, or I know I'm being recorded, I freeze up and can't get a full answer out. I know I'm not the only one who feels like this - plenty of people are camera shy, especially when they know they're being recorded. Definitely does not feel inclusive in any way for people with anxiety, public speaking issues, speech impediments, etc... Very few people can just hit record and perform like a weather man. It's a whole separate skill that is apparently necessary for working in retail. For a company that presents itself as ultra inclusive and progressive, they are using the most ableist interview process I've come across in my job search. Anyone who would put themselves on the neurospicy spectrum will likely struggle with this platform. I felt very frustrated, excluded and humiliated by this interview process.

      Department Manager Interview

      5 Feb 2022
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at REI

      Interview

VERY SKETCHY. 1st they make you jump through hopes by asking you to make videos of yourself answering questions.Once you pass that, you get a zoom interview..tag team..rapid fire ambiguous questions....uncomfortable. What happened in my case is I was told the process would take 3 weeks after the actual interview....a week later, the ad for the position I applied for was taken down and was"coincidently" replaced with two part time positions. Then I got a call saying that they decided to "go in another direction"....strange???

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

What has prepared you for this position at REI
