I got an email from the Schlumberger office in Colorado. The email provided me with a brief description of the job: hard-hat, work boots, physically and mentally demanding, sometimes 24 hours straight, etc. The email asked if I could talk over the phone three days from now. Luckily, I was prepared. The typical questions were asked: Where do you see yourself 5 years from now? Tell me about a time you had to step up as a leader. Tell me about a time you had to make a quick decision. Do you have problems relocating? They obviously look for a leader that can move around a lot. One question caught me off guard: If you were asked by someone to describe Schlumberger, what would you say? I was smart to have done my homework. To be honest, I had a lot more questions for him than he had for me. I asked about safety measures, hours of operation, and more importantly: how can I make use of my degree? They really don't look for particular types of engineers as far as discipline goes (civil, electrical, chemical, etc.). The drawback is that you aren't working under a Professional Engineer, which means that it won't count toward your license.
