      Flight Attendant Interview

      16 Feb 2017
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Los Angeles, CA
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied in-person. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at SkyWest Airlines (Los Angeles, CA) in Feb 2017

      Interview

My interview took place in the conference room of a Los Angeles hotel as part of a group interview open to anyone interested. SkyWest does ask you to complete their online application before attending the interview - although it was not a requirement. Check-in was from 5pm - 6pm. During check-in they take your resume and ask if you have completed an online application. Then they check your height (with your shoes off) to make sure you meet their height requirement of between 5'0" and 6'0". At 6pm they closed the doors with about 45 potential recruits inside. After the doors were closed, a recruiter stood in front and told us about the history of SkyWest Airlines and pretty much everything included in the flight attendant career guide on SkyWest.com. One thing he was very very specific about was "NO Visible Tattoos"! Period! None! Even if they won't show until you reach into an overhead bin and your sleeve goes up. If they can show at ANYTIME you are NOT a candidate! Then he allowed us to ask questions. After all questions were asked we were given a break but told before leaving that after the break he would have us one by one stand in front of the room and give a 60-second explanation of "Why we would make a great FA". He specifically instructed us not to mention our age, relationships, hobbies, or etc. After the break, the recruiters sat at a long table in the back of the room and called us one by one to the front of the room and had us give our 60-second response. I believe we were called alphabetically by our first names. This was a very relaxed experience with everyone really wanting everyone else to succeed in their presentation and lightly laughing when/if appropriate. Some people are just naturally funny. However, it is not necessary to be funny - just be yourself and practice beforehand and time yourself - 60 seconds goes very quickly and with 50 people in the room the recruiters don't have time for potential recruits to go over 60 seconds. And don't worry: The recruiters and the other potential recruits were all super nice! After everyone had given their presentations we were given a 45-minute break while the recruiters discussed our presentations and looked over our resumes. This is a great time to relax and just talk to the other potential recruits. Afterwards, they post the names of the people who will be given a one-on-one interview. If your name is not on the list you are not chosen to move forward in the process. However, if you are not chosen don't give up. Many current employees interviewed more than once before they were chosen. You are allowed to attend another group interview in 90 days to try again. So use that time to prepare for a second try. If your name is on the list you go back into the room and wait to be called for your face-to-face interview. Luckily, I made it to this stage. Once back in the room, it was an even more relaxed atmosphere with everyone talking and wishing everyone else the best of luck and congratulating everyone for making the first cut. This is a great time to get other people’s contact information so you can keep up with their outcome. During my one-on-one interview, I was asked 6 situation based questions. Again, this was a very relaxed interview, although I was still a little nervous. After my face-to-face, I talked to several other potential recruits who had very similar experiences to mine during their face-to-face. The last interviews wrapped up a little after 11 pm so be prepared for a long afternoon/night. Although it was long, it was a really fun night and didn't seem as long as it was. I can't wait until I hear back one way or the other within two weeks. This experience made me want to work for SkyWest more than ever.
