      Principal Consultant Interview

      1 Aug 2018
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Washington, DC
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Slalom (Washington, DC) in Jul 2018

      Interview

Recruiter identified me on LinkedIn. We met for 2 hours at a coffee shop and talked about how amazing Slalom was. I then came in for an onsite interview with the practice lead as well as other principal consultants in the local office. The recruiter sent me some positive vibes and said there would be a final interview, which involved a lengthy case study and power point presentation. This ultimately took me 40 hours to build as it involved research, data analysis, testing and slide development. A few days before the final interview, the recruiter called me to discuss salary. When we got to numbers, it was clear that I was out of Slalom's range as I was coming from a fairly senior position in Big4. This is where things got interesting: when I came into the final interview, the practice lead was on his phone during the entire presentation and I received almost no questions from the panel! They had clearly given up on me before the final interview started as a result of the salary discussion... and they had no problem letting me spend 40 hours to develop what I'd consider an excellent case study - something that could be published and is more insightful than similar materials developed by companies like Deloitte . After the interview, I quickly connected with the recruiter to discuss what had happened and no offer was given. Very disappointed that Slalom's recruiting function did not due their due diligence in vetting candidate requirements up front.

Thank you for sharing a review of your experience interviewing with Slalom. You are correct that is very important we vet candidate requirements up front so that we understand we're both aligned (or not) before time is invested in the process of interviewing with Slalom. We're very sorry to see this was not the case for you. We should also be giving you our undivided attention during a panel interview, regardless of any prior salary-vetting conversation. We're appreciative of the time you spent preparing for your interviews with Slalom, and your commitment to the process. We also appreciate you sharing this constructive feedback as it will serve as valuable input towards our efforts to continuously improve.
