I had some telephone interviews with the overall boss and his employees in the US. The interviews went very well and Sony rushed ahead as quickly as possible with a final face-to-face interview.
Unfortunately, this interview fell well below any reasonable standards of professional behaviour. Firstly, the hiring manager was extremely late, and he did not offer much of an explanation or apology either.
Secondly, and much more seriously, he appeared to be in a foul mood. Furthermore, I gained the distinct impression, despite previous communication from the feedback from the telephone interview and the evident haste of Sony to arrange the final interview, that I was not a serious candidate for the position right from the start before I had even opened my mouth.
I have never complained about the conduct of an interview before, but in my opinion it fell far below any reasonable standard. I suspect the problem was with the difference of opinion with the various parties involved in the US and UK, and that he might have felt he was being bounced into hiring me. Fine, he might well think I am not a good candidate for the role (I disagree, but this is not the point of my feedback) but it's no excuse for his behaviour, which was both unprofessional and disrespectful. Poor for any employer but a global brand like Sony should hold itself to higher standards.
