      Auto Underwriter Interview

      11 Jun 2014
      Anonymous employee
      Dunwoody, GA
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at State Farm (Dunwoody, GA) in Aug 2013

      Interview

The interview process was long. Once you apply a few weeks later you get a recorded phone call that you passed and will need to take an online assessment. The assessment consists of typical job assesment questions that are asked numerous times in different forms to make sure your answers are consistant. There are also small tests such as looking at a graph and answering questions or reading a situation and answering questions about it. Then there is a typing test. You are timed and must re-type a very long paragraph in I believe it was 60 seconds. The test is designed so no matter how fast you type, you will not finish. As long as you don't have many typos and get a decent ways in, you will be fine. Once the assessment is done, it took about a week. I was then emailed for with an interview date and time. Be aware and check your spam box! If you don't reply within 24 hours they may move on. From that point it was about 2 weeks to my interview. The interview was with two managers. It was very laid back. They asked simply questions like what my background was like and what I knew about insurance. I had done some homework on what Underwriters did and how to be successful as one. I threw some of that knowledge in and it impressed them I did my homework. They emphasized team work and being flexable as the company is going through a lot of growth and changes. From there is was about 3 weeks for me to to get the email I had been chosen for the position with a start date. I have to go through a background check and drug test. Salary was non-negotiable.

How did you approach the situation? Tell me about a time when you wanted to initiate a project on your own. How did you gain support for this project? What do you know about the job and State Farm? Be prepared to discuss your experience with working in high volume, production-driven environment Answer questions in STAR format (situation, task, action, result) Focus: what did you do/tell a compelling story focusing on highlighting desired key qualities in job description/what was the outcome/what did you learn. No hypothetical (direct experience) At the end of the interview they will ask: If ever fired from a job. Are you available to work a 7 hr 45 min shift between 7 am -8:15 pm. Was told this division's hours will expand to 10 pm. The interview will last around 45 min. You will be subject to a background check by Hire Right and drug test once contingent offer extended. Took 3 weeks to find out, no offer. No e-mail rejection communication received so far. Found out by checking on-line account. I thought I nailed it, but can't win them all. This would have been a new career path/second career. Heads up for my gen X, high competition with millennials. Hope this helps. Good Luck!

      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at State Farm (Richardson, TX) in Feb 2016

      Interview

My interview process was very "corporate." A group of us were taken up to first talk informally with a current employee in the position we were applying for. We were able to ask any questions about the position before we were split up with our interviewers. They asked many questions and then let me know they would notify me if employed or not via email. They were very cordial, professional, and genuine.

Share about a time when you had an unhappy customer and what you did in response to that situation.
