I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Success Academy Charter Schools (New York, NY) in Apr 2018
Interview
Before the interview, I was asked to complete a Case Study, which required that I develop a ticketing system that allows me to track, prioritize, and assess building issues, technology issues, and supply needs.
The interview itself was split into three different parts. There was an introductory section, a section that focused on personal and professional experience, and a section that required you to present and answer questions regarding the system you developed to address the school's needs. The section that required you to answer questions based on personal or professional experience asked questions that required you give specific examples.
There were about a dozen people interviewing with me. They insisted that we were not to view this as a competition, and there were three separate roles that people were interviewing for: Operations Coordinator, Community Operations Coordinator, and Office Coordinator. We were split into two groups, after we completed in the introductory section of the interview.
Personal Perspective: This was my first time participating in a group interview. They said that we were not competing with each other but it honestly felt like a personality competition. I went to a university that advocated for personal discussion but this was not that. It was a group interview solely at the convenience of Success Academy. We did not have to complete a task together or work together in any way, there was no reason for all of us to be together besides saving time for the Talent Management team. So although, I was really excited about the mission it left a bad taste in my mouth.
Biggest Takeaway: I found a lot of the questions to be very specific, so be ready with examples of your experience. Don't answer in an overarching or ambiguous manner.
Interview questions [4]
Question 1
Describe two of your strengths. How they would help you in this role?
I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Success Academy Charter Schools (New York, NY) in Aug 2025
Interview
After submitting my application, I was invited to a 30-minute Zoom interview. The scheduling was moved up by a day because of changes in the interview calendar.
The interview itself felt unusual. The atmosphere was not especially welcoming, and the questions asked were very different from what I expected. Instead of being asked about my professional background or skills, nearly every question centered on discipline: “What was a virtue instilled in your childhood?” “How were you disciplined in middle school?” “What consequences did you receive for not doing your homework?” and “How do you respond to criticism and feedback?”
None of the questions related to the position itself, and I had no opportunity to showcase my qualifications or experience. The focus on consequences and compliance seemed misplaced and made me question what the work environment might be like.
In the end, I did not move forward in the process, but I felt more relieved than disappointed. My suggestion would be for the company to make the interview process more relevant to the roles they are hiring for and to create an environment where candidates can demonstrate their actual skills.
Advice to candidates: Consider carefully whether this type of process aligns with what you are looking for in an employer.

They ask you four questions for this position and you have about 2 mins to answer this question. Each question basically relates to your experience working and how you organize yourself and work with others. Another question was how your coworkers would describe you if they were to ask them about how you work and engage with certain tasks.
