      Recruitment/Human Resources Role Interview

      25 Apr 2019
      Anonymous interview candidate
      New York, NY
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Thoughtworks (New York, NY) in Jan 2019

      Interview

Phone; webcam and In Person and Virtual - everyone I spoke and met with were passionate, smart and engaged - really had high expectations for the role and process and for the most part ThoughtWorks delivered with a couple of exceptions- one glaring. There was a subtext to many of the interviewers' responses around the acquisition of the firm by a Private Equity that was a yellow flag- each interviewer seemed to hedge any direct questions around the topic but reading between the lines I sensed tension/unhappiness. The most disconcerting element was when I finally got to the last person in my 4 hour in person panel: the hiring manager. There was an issue syncing up via webcam with the Manager based in the Chicago area; this was just the beginning of the awkwardness. I had done many hours of research on each person I was scheduled to meet so imagine my disappointment with the overall bored, disengaged, slumping checked out demeanor of this manager who was conducting the interview from home with dogs barking and running around during our interview. The manager seemed to have decided prior to the interview that I was a non-starter; had never heard of the consultancy I had worked for; hadn't even bothered to take 60 seconds and google it; asked me if I wouldn't be "bored" doing the job. This was astounding to me- dismissive of an entire skillset and role- essentially saying what I enjoyed do was boring and not challenging and therefore of no value. The entire interview went this way- I was relieved when it was finally over. I have rarely encountered someone with such vast experience to virtually drip with boredom and dismissiveness. Quite disappointing.
