Dear applicant
We are very sorry to hear, that you had a bad experience when interviewed at appstract. We would be very happy to talk to you about it, if you feel like it. It's always valuable to get feedback, also when it is not positive.
To start with, we would like to just clarify, that you do not meet "the boss" when you interview with us, but rather one of the lead developers along with our HR manager. And this is very important to us.
It's true that we tend to include at least one case based on Javascript in our interviews, along with .NET related, and more general cases. The explanation for this is, that we in general expect backend applicants to be able to understand at least basic Javascript (not DOM manipulation, but rather the language itself), since we are looking for people who (1) are interested in programming, and (2) are interested specifically in web technologies.
It should not be the case that we only focus on Javascript for backend developers, and we are sorry to hear, that you experienced it like that. The explanation for this, we think, probably lies in the fact, that depending on the order that we get through the subjects, if we find that the applicant does not do well on OOP/Design patterns and also doesn't do well on Javascript, then we might not get to the .NET topics within the allotted time.
We hope, that this can put things in a slightly different perspective for you. Again, we would love to elaborate on it, if you like. In that case please call our HR Manager Katrine Snowman at +45 2621 9094. Good luck in the future.
