I applied in-person. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at eBay (Remote, OR) in Sept 2017
Interview
I submit my job applications by directly emailing one of their lead data scientists. She called me and asked a few questions about my research and background. Then she asked a very easy probability question related to gambling machine. Later she sent me a link to a dataset and asked me to analyze the data and return the code and results within two weeks

Question 1
You observed two gambing machines for a period of time: one of them occasionally give rewards; the other one never give any rewards. Which one do you pick to play with?
Had two rounds of interviews, mainly asked questions about python, SQL and machine learning. And it was not really well because the process was different from the description in the email.
I’m not sure how I got this interview, as it was heavily focused on machine learning. It started with a hiring manager interview, where I was asked many in-depth questions, including how to choose a model, how to tune parameters, and how to evaluate model performance. I don’t have a strong background in machine learning, so I wasn’t able to answer many of the questions and didn’t move forward after the interview.
I applied through a staffing agency. I interviewed at eBay (Bengaluru) in Oct 2025
Interview
I interviewed for the Data Scientist position at eBay Bengaluru and had a final interview consisting of 3 rounds. After completing all rounds, there has been no communication or feedback from the recruitment team despite multiple follow-ups.
It’s very disappointing to see such poor candidate experience from a reputed company like eBay. If they take the time to conduct multiple rounds, the least they can do is respect candidates’ effort and provide closure.
This kind of ghosting after the final round reflects poorly on their hiring process and company culture. I would not recommend anyone to waste their time participating in such unstructured and unprofessional hiring drives.
