      Poor management from higher ups

      May 22, 2022 - Assistant Manager

      Pros

Somewhat decent team building experience. Good starter for people new to automotive industry. Lots of hours available, and several shops to locate to. Managers have salary plus bonus commission after sales goal is reached.

      Cons

Depending on location and managers in charge you may be overworked and underpaid. As a manager you may not always be able to get the bonus depending on location and business traffic. Lots of employees come and go Managers always rotate and end up lost picking up where the previous manager left off with regular customers. You don’t get shop locations you choose. As a general or assistant manager your sales can be taken if you aren’t credited right. As a tech you may not always be credited correctly which can lower your chance for a raise.

      Pros

Decent stepping stone in becoming an automotive technician at a shop that actually pays you a better amount of money

      Cons

First off…working during a winter storm! Texas rarely ever has snow but for Brake Check it doesn’t matter! Better be there tomorrow even if there's a foot of snow on the ground! Here’s the list - Making under qualified/ under paid people work on things they don’t know how to do - Not having enough people/qualified people to run a store - Being cussed/sworn at by upper management - Making techs do manager work without manager pay while pay techs make 0 commission -Store directors working several weeks without a break - shops I worked at took in a bunch of cars in without enough people to work on them making employees stay very late -Working six days a week -don’t ask for pto they won’t approve it

      Pros

Transparent pay system(Proliant) Easy to calculate future paychecks Seemingly fast build up of PTO All holidays (including Father's Day) off Decent and patient learning opportunities Closes in time for dinner

      Cons

Disgustingly toxic relationship with corporate Garbage pay for the work you often put in, especially on busy days False promises to get you to do what they want, or to get you to stay (offering promotions and pay raises for transfers to farther locations, etc.) Corporate micromanaged environment where someone is always in trouble for arbitrary things Keeps employees in line by creating an environment of constant fear for their jobs. Many managers have extremely limited technical experience, and yet they make all decisions about work done for the customer, a result of Brake Checks desperation since all of their good and experienced managers left the company.

      So. Bad.

      Pros

None I can think of. Maybe money, money, money (Only for Corporate Directors) as long as you can put your family and entire life on hold to live at the shop.

      Cons

EVERYONE (Literally) dreams of the day the get hired elsewhere so they can stop living at work, when the culture is so disrespectful and UNTHANKFUL for those who put in the hours and make money for this group. I couldn’t believe how everyone is literally dying to leave, yet the VP group doesn’t see any issue with their culture, or make any attempt to ask one simple question to its employees: WHAT MAKES YOU FEEL RESPECTED AS AN EMPLOYEE??? If they took a moment to ask this, it would be easily understood that their model is set up to turn over even the best every couple years, and start to literally suck the life out of the next crop. It’s so sad to see. Take a look at customer reviews, and the response from Brake Chevk says it all. Just a copy and paste response for bad reviews. As long as the money keeps rolling in, disregard customers AND employees. No big deal.

      Pros

Fact is the only way to truly make money here is to have stores with decent car counts, and be prepared to do things that are unethical or definitely hug that fine line of morality. You will find the most successful people in the company are the dudes with a very slick tongue, and have no problem upselling an alternator be replaced when just a battery is required and selling it as the correct repair. Also if you focus on zero to low cost items and sell a ton of them, you will definitely make 6 figures.

      Cons

If you aren’t a corporate director they treat you like lent. The only employees that make any money are the CD’s. The other staff in the stores are forced to kill themselves due to the managers being too afraid to add personnel to staff their stores in fear of not being able to pay their bills and feed their families
