Pros

Good medical benefits. Kind fellow employees.

Cons

Pretty much everything else. For a Catholic organization, their COO operates in a manner than isn't even "Christian" let alone in keeping in Catholic values. To be honest, this place is just a big mess and operates in an extremely corporate capacity to the Nth degree. There are constant committees in order to approve everything from company changes to what brand of coffee the company orders. Almost everyone I once knew there is gone, which I think speaks the most about how the company values their employees. Also, Catholic Extension's HR department requests that current employees give them good reviews on here, which I'm pretty sure is unethical (at least morally) so their rating got MUCH better than it used to be on here due to that.

Thank you for sharing your perspective. It's unfortunate you didn't have a favorable experience working here. We are very proud of our staff and DO feel they know what they're doing - many of them have accomplished amazing things to elevate our mission! Our staff is intelligent, hard-working, kind, and overall just fun to be around. When we launched our employment branding campaign a few years ago, staff were invited to participate in sharing their perspectives on Glassdoor. Many did. We also launched our LinkedIn LIFE page at the same time. It's true we had a little fun involving the staff when choosing a new coffee service.

Pros

Staff (including some senior management) were dedicated and hardworking. Co-workers were always friendly. Great mission. Pay and benefits were good.

Cons

some great things come out of the work here but the COO is a dictator who manages with fear and intimidation and doesn't care that he does so. He fires people on a whim and berates everyone as if he is an angry father and you are the shameful child. Staff are afraid of him and he revels in this. Sadly, this is the person who makes all of the decisions, so people just put up with it for fear of being the next victim.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. Our staff is aware (through orientation and policies) that we strive to have a professional work environment free from fear and intimidation. We agree that our staff is dedicated and hard-working. They are a great team who are always looking for new ways to move our mission forward. Having a competitive compensation and benefits program is important and we regularly assess these programs to ensure they remain competitive.

Pros

The mission of Catholic Extension supports under-resourced Catholic dioceses across the United States. People of every ethnicity, faith and socio economic segment are attended to and Gospel values fulfilled.

Cons

Management has absolutely no regard for employees, hiring and firing at a hectic, totally unbelievable pace without explanation or oversite. The work atmosphere is the most unfriendly and rude I have ever witnessed. For an org supported by hard earned gifts, there is no regard for the people who work there, but plenty ways for management to spend money on anything which benefits them. An absolutely horrible place to work because of management.
