I have been working at CryoLife full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

CryoLife has been around for over 30 years. This is a "pro" because it shows that the company is intent on being stable and has projected plans on how to serve people by improving and possibly saving lives of patients needing specialized cardiac care.

As a company, CryoLife strives to keep talented employees and encourages innovation all while maintaining a watchful eye on regulations and other compliance needs to ensure public safety.

Working at CryoLife is very often referred to as having a family atmosphere where quite a few employees have worked together for many years, yet new employees are easily welcomed into the organization.

    Cons

CryoLife has been around for over 30 years. This is also a "con" because companies can be entrenched in "this is how we have always done it." There is, at minimum, a three-pronged approach to update how CryoLife does business. First, all employees, including management, are involved in process improvement. Second, they are also ensuring that the company has effective and innovative products to offer doctors to help treat their cardiac patients. Third and this is very important, everyone, including the CEO, takes improving employee engagement as a critical part of further elevating CryoLife as a leader in the biotech industry. CryoLife is aware that a company is as strong as is employees and is dedicated to providing resources to help to strengthen its employees.

    Advice to Management

Stay on top of what you have started until you have reached a critical mass in mindset so that the breakthrough into the next level for CryoLife will be guaranteed to happen and guaranteed to stick. The new paradigm has already started and will continue to happen with management's continued dedication.

I have been working at CryoLife full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

a huge impact with every contribution of your talent that you bring to the table, regardless of your job function or level of seniority.

The culture is rapidly growing into an environment that allows you to align your personal purpose and mission in life to that of the organizations. CryoLife's Purpose is about extending and saving lives while satisfying the business demands of Wall Street.

We are not a Google, but we have an awesome new fitness center, basketball courts, open cafe with unlimited expressos or latte and healthy foods, Extensive wellness programs, massage chairs, and sports leagues such as golfing, bowling, and softball. If you are just looking for a j.o.b. , you may not be happy here, the people that stay here bring a passion to make a difference that matters.

The training programs and learning opportunities continue to expand into a Learning Culture for developing Leaders through CryoLife's Corporate University. Instructor lead classes, online learning, and Lunch & Learns are a growing constant that allows you to develop a solid personal and professional value proposition.

    Cons

CryoLife continues to works its way through a few legacy challenges with back-office system bottlenecks, however, they are dedicating money and resources to bring these challenges to an end. There are still employees and managers that have been around since Moses and are a little resistant to change and personal transformation to adapt to the purpose, mission, and strategic growth plan under the passionate leadership of Pat Mackin.

    Advice to Management

Manage the change... don't let the resistors to change manage you.
Hold every manager on every level to be accountable for developing their people

I have been working at CryoLife full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Culture and morale has improved massively over the last few years.

    Cons

HR is a disaster. Was much better 5 years ago. Have had several pretty large scale layoffs in the last few years after change of CEO and acquisitions.

I have been working at CryoLife full-time

    Pros

Processing tissue is an amazing experience. Knowing your taking someone else's donated gift and helping others with it is very rewarding.

    Cons

Management needs training. They seem to not care for their employees, just the numbers they put up.

    Advice to Management

Treat employees like the smart, educated and talented individuals they are instead of a production assembly line. Happy employees want their numbers to be great.

I worked at CryoLife full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Excellent mission, dedicated employees, and good benefits. I worked for this company for a very long time, and left of my own accord to pursue another endeavor. I definitely experienced some rough patches over the years, but there has been a major shift (for the better) in corporate culture under the direction of Pat Makin. The interview process is stringent, but it has to be considering the nature of work. A lot of opportunities to move up.

    Cons

Hard work, difficult hours, and lower than average pay.... although this may have changed since I left.

    Advice to Management

Continue to improve culture, appreciate your employees (especially the hard working and dedicated ones), and focus on creating a work environment based on positive feedback.

I worked at CryoLife full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Interesting industry in medical devices and life saving technologies. Overall intelligent workforce and most people were appreciative of your efforts and time. They do reward loyalty though.

    Cons

Because the company is publicly traded and subject to SEC, FDA, and SOX compliance there are mountains of SOPs and red tape. Sometimes it feels like a bureaucratic nightmare to complete simple tasks. Some departments are easier to work in than others, and management does not always support or back up their staff when challenged by upper management. The benefits were not great considering the size of the company.
