Members of the team were incredibly toxic. They purposefully engaged in controversial and divisive conversations (e.g., politics, religion, etc.) to prove they could disagree and still work together. Except in reality, they'd hold grudges and ignore/sabotage calls for help. It was like watching them waft in each other's farts and pretending they didn't smell.
I once had a coworker confront me before eventually yelling at me. I remember thinking, "I can't believe this is a tech company." They didn't apologize or acknowledge their actions when they were proven wrong.
My team lead was much more knowledgeable about the tech and the project than the rest of the team, but he was dismissive towards outside ideas. He would often decline PR's or say "that won't work" without any justification as to why it wouldn't. He had the tendency to hijack and guard projects.
