Pros

As a fresh graduate, I feel incredibly lucky to have started my journey with ELCA Mauritius through the ELCAdemy program. The training was not only fun and interactive, but also helped me build a strong foundation in software testing and develop my personal and professional skills. I learned so much more than I expected in just six months. What I really appreciate is the opportunity to get involved — I was even able to help organize events, which made me feel truly included. The people here are friendly, approachable, and always willing to help. Overall, I’m really happy to be part of ELCA and excited for what’s ahead!

Cons

One challenge I faced was adapting to the fast-paced environment and steep learning curve early on. However, this pushed me to grow quickly, become more resourceful, and build confidence in my abilities — something I now really value about the experience.

Pros

Supportive and multicultural work environment, with regular collaboration across Switzerland, Vietnam, and Mauritius. Exposure to diverse technologies (.NET, Angular, Java, Cloud, Playwright, etc.) across various industries; healthcare, education, telecommunications, finance, security, just to mention a few. Focus on quality delivery and engineering best practices. "There’s no better validation than knowing our hand-made products are making a real difference!" Encouragement to participate in public tech events and represent the company. Working with international teams broadens both exposure and learning. Strong emphasis on internal knowledge sharing through expertise centres, Brown Bag sessions, Tech Days, and training programmes. The 2025 Tech Days at Säntis was a real highlight, reflecting ELCA’s commitment to learning and excellence. Good work-life balance.

Cons

Project teams often build strong bonds, especially during intense or long-term engagements. As a result, it can feel a bit bittersweet when a project ends and the team members move on to different projects. That said, this also reflects the strength of the team culture and many colleagues stay connected across projects or reunite on future ones.

Pros

Working at ELCA has been valuable experience, especially in terms of professional development and personal growth. One of the key highlights is the Elcademy program, which plays a crucial role in recruiting fresh graduates and preparing them for success in multiple domains such as software development and testing. The program also includes structured coaching and career planning, helping young professionals shape their path towards becoming future technical experts or project leaders. The company places a strong emphasis on continuous learning and upskilling. Employees are encouraged to pursue certifications, attend internal workshops, and explore cross-functional skills. Whether you are in a technical role, functional domain, or support function, there are many opportunities to grow and expand your expertise. Another strength is the diverse and multicultural work environment. Collaboration across different regions (Switzerland, Vietnam, Mauritius, and beyond) creates a rich, inclusive culture that values global perspectives and teamwork. Working across time zones and cultures has helped many of us improve not just our core skills, but also our communication, adaptability, and interpersonal effectiveness. What also stands out is the company’s commitment to quality in delivery. Regardless of the project or department, there is a shared drive to meet high standards, improve processes, and stay aligned with industry trend - particularly in areas such as automation, AI, and digital transformation. I also appreciated that we could contribute using our past experiences in other areas like recruitment and staffing. The company does take time to understand employee strengths and aspirations, and there is an overall effort to align work assignments with individual career goals.

Cons

There is room for improvement when it also comes to reward and recognition. While many employees work hard and show strong capabilities, there doesn’t always seem to be a clear distinction in how promotions and salary increments are handled. At times, it feels like everyone at the same level is treated equally, regardless of individual performance. A more structured and transparent approach to promotions would help retain talent and motivate high performers. Currently, opportunities to represent the company at external events or training courses are mainly given to managers. It would be valuable to extend these opportunities to employees (across senior levels and above) who show interest and potential, allowing them to showcase their skills, gain exposure, and bring back new knowledge and perspectives to their teams.

Pros

The company provides a reasonably flexible environment with a good level of trust, assuming you have a competent manager—though this can vary significantly between teams. It is a solid place to start a career, especially for junior engineers, offering stability and relatively low risk of layoffs if you stand out. There is also plenty of room for improvement, which can be an opportunity for those willing to drive change. Senior staff are often able to influence technology and practices, although this requires initiative. Compensation is generally in line with the market, without being particularly competitive.

Cons

Management practices remain quite traditional, and concepts like Agile or DevOps are sometimes applied superficially, leading to limited ownership and unclear responsibilities. The organization is primarily project-driven rather than product-oriented, which impacts long-term vision and technical consistency. It also reflects more of a service company mindset than a strong engineering culture. Career progression lacks clarity, with internal titles that do not align well with standard software engineering paths. There is limited investment in the tech community, including low presence at local events and constrained budgets for training and conferences. Finally, the overall experience varies widely between teams: some maintain high standards, while others are constrained by legacy systems, budget limitations, or heavy offshore delegation, which can negatively affect quality.

Pros

I don't believe a perfect company exists. However, I do believe in companies that listen to criticism and use it as fuel to grow and overcome challenges. Before joining ELCA Informatique (Mauritius), I had heard various criticisms about the company. However, the past six months have only reinforced that I made the right choice in joining in. Each day has brought learning, growth, and a sense of purpose in my work. The atmosphere: I’ve found the majority of my colleagues to be genuinely friendly and easy to approach, which has made settling in much easier. The laughs, the lunch time together, the after-work plans help create new bonds which I cherish the most. The work: Work can be challenging at times, but never in a discouraging way. On the contrary, these challenges create valuable opportunities for growth — both in my role and in developing my skills. I feel heard and recognized in the workplace, which makes a real difference. ELCA supports continuous learning by offering training aligned with individual skill sets and actively encourages a growth mindset. I truly appreciate the company’s efforts to create a sense of comfort, belonging, and togetherness among employees — whether through organized gatherings, sundowners, games, or team-building activities. These initiatives go beyond just the workplace and help foster a stronger sense of community and connection.

Cons

Although ELCA is continuously pushing to better itself, there are still areas that can be improved. As a relatively new and growing company, some internal processes — such as onboarding or task structuring — are still evolving and may lack consistency at times. However, this also presents a unique opportunity: it allows employees to contribute ideas, shape how things are done, and be part of building more effective systems from the ground up. The company currently has a policy requiring employees to be in the office at least 80% of the time. I understand this approach, especially as the company continues to build trust around time management and accountability. That said, I personally believe that if work is delivered on time and meets quality expectations, physical presence shouldn't be the primary measure of commitment — though I recognize that perspectives on this may differ.
