Pros
- No crunch. Brief periods of overtime only when absolutely necessary and weekend days are usually given back in lieu. - Lovely people. - Great culture with lots of nice little perks, benefits and social stuff. - Genuinely approachable studio directors. - Mostly flexible working hours (see below).
Cons
- Lunch break is not included. It’s a 40 hour week but that doesn’t include lunch. So you’re expected to work 9-6, 10-7, etc, not 9-5, 10-6 like just about everywhere else. But you’re still expected to take an hour for lunch, making it a 45 hour week in reality. This is very strange and at odds with the culture the studio tries to promote. It’s presumably just what the directors (ex-Black Rock) are used to. I know of several people that are put off from applying for this reason, so the studio may struggle to attract staff, especially those commuting from further afield.
