Pros

Gives you appreciation for working anywhere else.

Cons

-Management has no clue how to manage. -Besides telling blatant falsehoods, the longest-tenured VP’s best skills are self-promotion and undermining his colleagues and subordinates. -Member companies are very frustrated. It’s a true wonder why they keep paying dues. One has to think that they will eventually understand how their money is being wasted. -Talented employees either leave or are let-go because competence and ambition threaten management. -Advice and suggestions for positive change are viewed as “threats”. Senior Management never accept responsibility for mistakes and instead blame the constantly-changing staff as the problem. -The only “goal” is to prepare for the next Board Meeting, where they will BS about how much was done since the last Board meeting. It apparently never crossed anyone’s mind to actually do stuff in between meetings. -If you don’t worship the CEO and the ground she walks on, you won’t survive very long.

No leadership, no structure, no plan — no bueno!

Pros

biweekly paycheck — that's about it

Cons

The CEO is a first-time CEO with no experience in the financial industry — and it shows every day in every way. Senior leaders don't share vital information and make all decisions behind closed doors without consulting staff, even though this is a very small group (<20). A top-down culture of blame permeates the organization.

At ETA we are proud of our people and proud of the work we do together. We are a mission-driven organization that works closely with our members every day as we implement our mission and vision. The results have been incredibly positive as membership has grown significantly over the past year, notwithstanding the challenges posed by the pandemic. These results would not be possible without amazing, engaged team members who support the mission and each other. We invest heavily in our culture to ensure this is a great place to work. We stay connected through a weekly All-Hands meeting at which our employees set the agenda. The CEO has a standing, open “Ask the CEO” session at which any question can be asked. We invest in our people by providing opportunities for professional growth. The CEO holds regular 1:1 calls with every employee, just to check in. We have a cross-departmental group whose responsibility is to identify fun things to do. And we celebrate our successes – in person when we can be together, and virtually when that’s the best we can do. Again, we think the results speak for themselves. The work we do is excellent and although our people are talented and sought after, we had a grand total of one voluntary departure in all of 2021, and have had only one thus far in 2022. That said, every day we strive to do better yet. We know that we are not perfect, and also understand that no organization is a perfect fit for everyone. We actively encourage and welcome constructive dialogue that helps us improve -- because we know that if ETA is going to continue to be a place to work that we are all proud of, it’s going to require the team to continue to pull together, support each other, and make us all better.
