Pros
Remote work. In the earlier years, genuinely great colleagues, many of whom have since been pushed out. DEIB efforts are sincere and offer different groups
Cons
I've watched this company change dramatically, and not in a good way. 5+ CPO changes in fewer years should tell you everything you need to know about the stability of leadership here. Product and Design now reports to the CISO. That's not a strategic decision. It's a signal that no one at the top has a coherent vision for what this company actually is. The culture used to be genuinely collaborative and transparent. That's gone. What's replaced it is a politics-first environment where relationships matter more than results. You can exceed expectations on your performance review and still receive a raise that doesn't keep pace with inflation (and you can get nothing if you're performing at the expected level). Benefits (actual and perks) have been eroded year over year. At a certain point, the math stops working. Senior executives, including at the C-suite level, demonstrably don't understand how the core product works. That shows up in decisions and strategy whiplash, even how they talk about new features. For anyone in Product particularly, this creates a particular kind of exhaustion: doing serious work in an environment that isn't structured to recognize or reward it. Director-level management is inconsistent at best. Several managers at that level appear uncertain about their own mandates, which means their energy goes into self-protection rather than developing their teams or advocating for them. Growth and sponsorship exist, but largely for people who aren't perceived as a threat. Dissent is not welcome. If you push back or ask questions, expect it to cost you, whether in missed opportunities or in people hoarding context you need to do your job. If you're ambitious and good at your job, that combination will likely work against you here. I don't regret my time here - I've learned a lot - but would not join 1Password in its current state and counsel anyone asking against it. There are good people at this company. Genuinely talented, committed individuals. That makes it harder, not easier, because you can see exactly what this place could be (and used to be) if it were run differently.
