Pros

Lab work is generally pretty flexible.

Cons

I was warned to not work for ASCI, but I thought to myself hey, it can't be that bad. The work that they do seems interesting. Unfortunately, I was wrong to give them a chance and it ended up being a huge waste of time. First of all, the HR and management is completely dishonest about your benefits. You get a minimum of 3 sick days, which is the legal MINIMUM, and 10 days of vacation. I knew it was low but I didn't see to mind at first. But get this: they don't tell you in your offer letter that you have a 90 day probationary period in which you don't accrue vacation days at all. So in essence, you only have 7.5 days of vacation your first 12 months. To make things worse, the company says they give out yearly bonuses if they're doing well, but in the year that I've been there, no bonuses were given out to any individual contributors of the company. Apparently bonuses were never given out for the past couple of years (according to my more senior co workers). I thought the company was doing bad, but then we kept getting these presentations showing how well we're doing. I don't always expect yearly bonuses because they do depend from company to company. However, almost all companies give merit increases every year to adjust for inflation at least. Even non profits I worked for gave their employees 3% increase every year. This company gives no merit increases AT ALL. I had co workers who did not get a single raise at all even though their titles changed. And they wonder why so many people leave year after year.

Pros

Something to learn in gene-editing.

Cons

Micromanagement, yelling and saying I'm the boss, hiring people doing nothing with higher payment than current employee, never accept suggestion but lay you off.
