Great place to work depending on what school/dept you are working in - Manager Arizona State University Employee Review

Pros

I love ASU and have worked at several of the schools. It's a beautiful campus and generally a relaxed atmosphere. The benefits are what you would expect working as a state employee. Great benefits! The tuition waiver makes school a possibility. Your spouse, your children, if it applies, get the same benefit. Affordable health insurance, dental, eye coverage. It's very, very desirable.

Cons

Parking! Nightmare. You have to pay to park and it isn't cheap. ASU is also sprawling and growing at a huge speed. How long they can provide a quality education while their enrollment increases, I can't say. But it's a concern. Also, the retirement. 10% of your paycheck goes into your retirement which you can't borrow against or change the percentage. That is a big bite if you aren't making much and, trust me, you probably aren't making much. That's the last con. With great benefits, comes a tiny paycheck for many. Finally, some schools are fantastic to work at, some are very much not.

Pros

A stable employer with a honorable mission -- to provide quality education to both exceptional and ordinary students. "Judge us by who we include and how they succeed."

Cons

Being a large employer, quite bureaucratic, and inflexible.
