This problem may have be specific to my department rather than company-wide, but it’s a pretty substantial one. Bergmann’s upper management is overtly indifferent to the career development of all but a very small selection of employees.
If you are not the management’s chosen, Bergmann will not make a good long term solution for you. Your feedback will be disregarded, you will not be included in critical opportunities to advance your career, and the best you will ever be able to be is second in line for the most exciting projects. Unfortunately, there is no amount of self-improvement, dedication, or any other effort that will be able to change this. Yes, you will be recognized for your efforts, but it will have no impact on this pattern. In some instances, managers directly inhibited efforts by an employee to advance the skills of another neglected coworker.
Making a career at Bergmann is a viable option for only a few people; for the rest, it would be wise to not stay too long.
