Pros
On a positive note, the actual job duties are not bad and it is quite rewarding to help participants enter the workforce.
Cons
OMG . . . where to begin? This company has an extremely high turnover rate in both employees and management. During a two-year period, this project has gone through three project managers, several supervisors, and a countless number of employees. Some supervisors play favorites, inviting some of their staff to holiday parties, but not others. Some employees are permitted to talk while others are reprimanded if they socialize for even just a few minutes. Management is incompetent, punitive, and creates a hostile environment. The incompetence is not limited to the management, but includes human resources as well. For several months our local taxes were incorrect, causing many of us to owe a significant amount of money at the end of the year. There have also been some mistakes in the accrual of our personal time off (PTO), resulting in the loss of accrued hours for many employees. Numerous emails back and forth with HR were ineffective at correcting HR’s mistakes. Communication from management to staff is poor or non-existent. Some supervisors will communicate important information to their friends, but not to other staff who also need to know. As a result, no one is on the same page. Some supervisors simply don’t say anything at all. Not even “hello”. Apparently, the county has realized ResCare’s shortcomings and has chosen not to renew their contract. My hope is that the new company is much better so that the participants of the Work Experience Program don’t have to suffer.
