Pros

-Wonderful, talented people to work with. High levels of technical and domain competence combined with low egos make teams fun and easy to work with. -Building on the first point, this culture creates a dynamic and relatively safe environment for designers and tech-builders just starting in their career. Practitioners get exposure to diverse and challenging projects. This is true of consulting, generally, but CapTech's culture (usually) protects junior folks from the toxicity that often exists at other firms. -The ability to work from home with access to a local office for coordinating meetup, team-bonding activities, and occasional in-office work days strikes a pretty good balance of both worlds. (Although the money spent on some leases could be better spent towards compensation, IMO.)

Cons

-Culture has largely gone downhill since about 2022. Employees seemed to rally in response to COVID. Management was largely transparent and acted quickly to make some tough decisions that ultimately lead to a fair distribution of the hardship across the organization. During the 2023 tech bubble/panic, however, leadership kept employees largely in the dark about the company's plans for layoffs and executed separations poorly. Morale took a major hit as a result. -As mentioned in other reviews, changes to the bonus structure made in 2022-ish make it nearly impossible to work reasonable hours, take your PTO (part of the comp package), and get a bonus. Despite many, many employees voicing concerns about this for years, the policy was not improved. -Design and creative consultants are often leveraged to engage in very important business development and innovation work outside of client responsibilities that is not rewarded in bonuses or promotions. -Pathways to promotion are not as clear-cut as the company-provided guidance makes out. -Compensation is quite low compared to other consulting and in-house firms. Improvements to the above could make up for some of this but with the way inflation has been, I don't think it would be enough.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and thank you for acknowledging the incredible people that make up CapTech. We hate to hear you’ve felt a shift in culture as we strive to be the best consulting firm to work for. We, like many firms across a variety of industries, did face headwinds in 2023, and we worked very hard to lessen the impact and burden on our people. Executive leadership shared in the burden while working to insulate our company and our people from the external challenges. Through competitive compensation and extended benefits, our goal is always to ensure our CapTechers are valued for their contributions to the business. We will always be open to change for the better of our consulting base and regularly evaluate our policies to best support our employee population. I'd welcome the opportunity to speak directly with you regarding your thoughts and ideas - please reach out! -Katy Apostolides, Managing Director - HR

We appreciate everything you do for CapTech, and I'm glad your experience has been a positive one. We want everyone to feel supported as they grow and develop in new ways. I agree that the transition between clients can be stressful, and we recognize the importance of communication, support and engagement during these periods of change. Our weekly bench calls and open-door culture are two ways team members on the bench can connect and learn how to stay connected between clients. -Katy Apostolides, Managing Director - HR
