Pros

You can make a real positive change in people's lives. Most of the positions have a lot of room for building new skills. This is perfect for people really into workforce development.

Cons

If you creative, innovative, or like improving things, you will not be happy here. Not following policies is treated as laziness or incompetence. No matter how bad the weather is, there will NOT be snow days. Even for a storm of the century. Even if the governor urges people to not go to work. If you are not willing to risk your life to get into work, it is a sign that you are LAZY. There is SIGNIFICANT cultural incompetence at the senior level. A few times per year you will hear things so ignorant that your eyes will bug out of your head. All the positive reviews written this spring came after the boss sent a email to the staff asking for positive reveiws and implying that it would indirectly lead to raises.

We do make a concerted effort to diversity our program participants as well as our staff who are exceptionally skilled and experienced in this arena. I'd like to talk with you more about this to understand some of your comments. Would you reach out to me (Nancy) so we can schedule some time to speak? Thank you!

Pros

Ultimately, my experience at Career Collaborative was a positive one. The people who work there are dedicated to their clients and supportive of each other and the goals of the organization, and the work itself is fulfilling. I was given many opportunities to contribute in different and valued ways, which provided me with the opportunity for personal growth as well. The organization has headed in a more growth-oriented, balanced and likely sustainable direction with the new CEO.

Cons

Sometimes it could be hard to maintain personal space and boundaries from certain clients, which felt extra-challenging on hectic days. Better data collection and management resources could and should be developed (though I understand that's already in process), because I know we definitely did some surveys and feedback initiatives whose results were never analyzed and discussed nor applied. Salary is a bit on the low side, but that's a nonprofit for you and it wasn't enough of a con for me to not take and enjoy the job.
