Pros

The opportunity to travel, along with gaining an understanding and insight to many different industries is great. Getting to know a bunch of fantastic people.

Cons

Restrictions coming from the UK government are a bit tight due to insurance purposes. Repetition in Challenges Worldwide documents, and ICS documents which are not that applicable to Challenges.

Pros

3 months living in a new country - Living with local families and working with an equal number of in country volunteers makes this program stand out from other similar offerings. Good for the CV - you get a lot of opportunity to talk about this, and is more interesting than your standard internship. Especially for people with little previous experience If their aim is to provide an experience for volunteers, both in country and for UK, then it probably does this.

Cons

Poor training - run by people who have very little credibility in what they're talking about. Anyone who can Google and search wiki could provide the 'business' training we received. If their aim is to provide advice to local businesses, 3 months from start to finish is too short for many of the projects .The fact that this is pre-set, with a pre-determined structure for 'analysis of the business', with no concern for the project in question is telling.

Pros

Amazing, once in a lifetime opportunity to gain exposure to consulting a small business in a developing nation. Due to the international setting, you are given the opportunity to immerse yourself in diverse teams and work towards a common goal. You get out what you put in.

Cons

Training days (once per week) were not well structured and a lot of the volunteers felt we were wasting this day when we could have been working on our analysis or implementations with our business. Some business owners were not fully cooperative with their consultants, clearly the management team hadn't screened these businesses and their owners very well. I was fortunate enough to have a young and very intelligent client who was very cooperative, allowing me to make the most effective use of my time on the project.
