I experienced a lot of nepotism in my department - if you weren't part of the "family" you weren't cared for. This withstood time, even under new leadership who only lead the department for his own advancement. On a personal level, I didn't care, but any time there was crisis or conflict, several team members were not included in team meetings, leading to a disjointed strategy and we had absolutely no leadership visibility or guidance (perhaps one meeting with the head of the department per month). At a time of critical change, there was no desire to understand my role and the value I brought to the department, so much so that upon my departure I was offered an IT role which is completely outside my scope of work or skill set (the entirety of my career was spent in marketing).
