      Pros

      It is great to be in NY as a PhD student. There are wonderful events in the university. The engineering school is small but there are very good professors. People are cooperative, there is no disturbing competition between the students. Many opportunities to collaborate with Brookhaven National Lab and other close by institutions.

      Cons

      In some departments lab facilities are not sufficient. Pay is less than it;s supposed to be.

      Pros

      My job with the Columbia Population Research Center is fully remote, which is a great perk. I can also create my own schedule and work any day of the week.

      The pay could be better.

      The work when I had it was amazing, I really appreciated it for what it gave me.

      Cons

      Unfortunately, with the change in management came zero transparency and rules for thee, not for me. It's led to really weird decisions.
