Pros
• Life changing pay + benefits + stipends • Remote first organization, home office setup • Extremely talented ICs - some of the smartest people I've worked with • Passionate legacy employees • World class products & experiences • Opportunity to learn and grow • MSFT acquisition added much more resources
Cons
GitHub is no longer the friendly, employee first driven company it had built it's reputation on. Since the MSFT acquisition, the environment has changed drastically, leaving behind very few remnants of once a thriving culture. • Cliquey. Very personality driven culture; character is less important. • Not a lot of empathy. Demanding hours & workloads increase by the day. • Constant change without much transparency. Lots of re-orgs. • Review process is broken with no ability to respond to critique. • Fail-fast, fail-small mentality, with little margin for error • Does not value diversity! • GitHub actively has an open ICE contract. • Women and POC have an incredibly high turn over rate and are paid significantly less than their white colleagues. • There is only 9% diversity in leadership. • ERGs do a majority of the labor to push diverse agendas and equity.
