Pros

There are talented people employed at Grand Image.

Cons

The owner of Grand Image is extremely bigoted and engages in misogynistic and threatening behavior. The President of Grand Image is a woman who covers up and dismisses his behavior, which was extremely disappointing. Women in the work force need strong, ethical women in leadership roles who will speak truth to power, will be advocates for change, fight for equality and promote dignity and mental safety in the workplace, rather then simply being concerned with preserving/protecting their personal job security.

Grand Image Response
6y
In December of 2017 we received a review from a past employee that was so personal in its attack on our former president and me, the CEO, I could not even fathom how to respond to such accusations without seeming the fool-a no win deal. Thus the long delay in response. But as our hiring and company continues to grow, as well as the Glassdoor traffic, I felt the need to at least say something in response. I regret that your time at Grand Image was such that it would create such anger and hostility. We strive daily to provide a safe and enjoyable work environment. As individuals and as a company we understand that we are imperfect in many areas and continue to work diligently to improve. But in response to your personal attacks, with between 40 and 60 employees working at Grand Image at any given time, the majority of key management roles held by women, plus some forty years in business and hundreds of past employees (three still with company over thirty years) not once have either I or our management team received any complaints in the arenas you suggest. I invite any prospective team member interviewing to see for themselves our culture and “vibe’ and ask hard questions of others during the interview process. Grand Image is a great company to work for those who are creative, ambitious, self-starting and believe that art and commerce are not mutually exclusive.

Pros

In my time at Grand Image, I worked directly with a team of artists, photographers, designers, art consultants, project managers, printmakers, logistics staff, account managers, and vendors. I felt respected by the Leadership Team and given agency over my department. The company is just large enough, (or maybe small enough,) that any individual can make an impact on the business. The owner is very involved in, connected to and passionate about the company’s mission, it’s people and the visual arts. In my experience, the owner and management team were compassionate and generous with their knowledge and attention. Anyone interested in working for Grand Image should be excited to take on creative challenges and willing to accept change. This is a unique business that merges art and commerce, and it’s not for everyone, but can be a launching place for some and a long-term career for others. Pros • Excellent healthcare benefit options. • Flexible hours if it can be accommodated. • Work/life balance. It is understood that people have lives and commitments outside of work. • Opportunity to learn about different roles in the art consulting and publishing business. • Work in an office with a gallery space and artists’ studios, surrounded by artwork.

Cons

Cons • Not a lot of public transportation options nearby. • Not as many opportunities for advancement compared to large corporations. • While we may disagree with the opinion that art is not necessary, the reality is that the arts are particularly vulnerable to global events, recessions, and pandemics.
