Pros

There are talented people employed at Grand Image.

Cons

The owner of Grand Image is extremely bigoted and engages in misogynistic and threatening behavior. The President of Grand Image is a woman who covers up and dismisses his behavior, which was extremely disappointing. Women in the work force need strong, ethical women in leadership roles who will speak truth to power, will be advocates for change, fight for equality and promote dignity and mental safety in the workplace, rather then simply being concerned with preserving/protecting their personal job security.

Grand Image Response
6y
In December of 2017 we received a review from a past employee that was so personal in its attack on our former president and me, the CEO, I could not even fathom how to respond to such accusations without seeming the fool-a no win deal. Thus the long delay in response. But as our hiring and company continues to grow, as well as the Glassdoor traffic, I felt the need to at least say something in response. I regret that your time at Grand Image was such that it would create such anger and hostility. We strive daily to provide a safe and enjoyable work environment. As individuals and as a company we understand that we are imperfect in many areas and continue to work diligently to improve. But in response to your personal attacks, with between 40 and 60 employees working at Grand Image at any given time, the majority of key management roles held by women, plus some forty years in business and hundreds of past employees (three still with company over thirty years) not once have either I or our management team received any complaints in the arenas you suggest. I invite any prospective team member interviewing to see for themselves our culture and “vibe’ and ask hard questions of others during the interview process. Grand Image is a great company to work for those who are creative, ambitious, self-starting and believe that art and commerce are not mutually exclusive.

Horrible management and culture

Pros

Getting to do work in a pretty unique space and meet some interesting people in the field

Cons

Completely mismanaged and horribly directed. Was told by management that they knowingly ignore small problems until they've gone too far and are brought up by staff members. I agree with the other review in saying management argue with each other like they're part of a dysfunctional family - making everyone very uncomfortable and creating a hostile environment in which it is difficult to voice concerns. The creative portion of the business basically just rips off popular artwork found on the internet. Art direction is a joke with very little research being done. Everything hinges on the studio essentially assigning themselves content to plagiarize.

Pros

They paid every two weeks

Cons

Extremely discriminatory and irresponsible hiring practices—In my time there I learned from someone who reports directly to the owner Larry that Larry is reluctant to hire 30 year old women because "they will get pregnant and leave." They frequently over-hire and end up laying off employees soon after, after reassuring them their jobs are safe. During layoffs, the staff targeted has been those with disabilities, new mothers and people of color. I have known multiple employees laid off within two weeks of notifying the company of a medical condition or other unexpected emergency, and one laid off as she returned from maternity leave. You will have to beg and fight for every small pay raise you may receive, and it will not be close to the market value of the work you are performing. They have been known to run internal campaigns to motivate current employees to write positive glassdoor reviews to outweigh the negative ones. In recent years they have attempted to silence departing employees by making them sign an NDA to receive a measly 2 weeks severance, however many employees are unaware that the NDA is invalid under the Silence No More act in Washington. The CEO ominously stated during recent layoffs he will do "whatever he has to do" protect his family's nest egg. This company does not care if you live or die. Apply at your own risk.
