Pros

Allows employees to gain experience working with a wide variety of enterprise applications. Generally very laid back attendance policy, reasonably good benefits. Employment is reasonably secure in terms of layoffs.

Cons

Middle management tried to hard to make everyone happy instead of rewarding employees based on performance. Lax attendance policy abused by a good proportion of employee base. Layoffs(though I was not affected) were based on a very inconsistent methodology. Some management "cliquey" and unprofessional. Pay was far below market average, when I presented management and HR market surveys, they would not match these figures. Managers abused training budgets for personal vacation time, preventing employees from getting training.

Pros

Great experience, especially if just starting out in oil and gas industry. Lots of industry-leading equipment/tech/etc.

Cons

If you can't handle long hours, harsh conditions (at times), and being away from home for long periods of time, this job isn't for you. My experience at Halliburton was also that many people feel like they're just a number in that management will make frequent (and often sweeping) changes to processes, workflows, engineering schedules, etc. Lots of bureaucratic hoops to jump through in order to advance through the three levels of Field Engineer before you can "break out" and really make good money.
