Better when it was in Camarillo - IT Function Harbor Freight Tools Employee Review

Pros

When HFT was in Camarillo under the old regime it was a bit unorganized but a great place to work with people that had been there since company started 1968. They offer 2 weeks vacation from scratch and good benefits. Pay is typically a bit low but one can quickly advance if working hard.

Cons

Now when company is in Calabasas it is more cut-throat and hard work. Most of the executives and many good-with-people managers were all fired to leave room for a new generation of outsourcing and cut-throat approach. Some IT people on salary were made to work mandatory Saturdays and long days without any extra compensation. You may have 3 managers in one year as people are getting hired/fired right and left. Some people were fired after 25 years without even a thank you.

Pros

Great benefits, fast paced environment, good teamwork. I liked the hours, you get an education about tools, whether from your coworkers or the customers. And speaking of the customers, they were on the better side for retail. Most are down to earth and easy to converse with.

Cons

Supply chain issues, many parts would never be replenished, despite being featured, advertised, and on display. That would often lead to tensions with customers. Aggressive time constraints on tasks. Sidewalk sales, holidays, and also coincidentally inclement weather days, can be quite busy and therefore stressful. Especially if there's call outs, but if you have a good management team, you'll have good staff that will want to work for them.
