Pros
Coworkers and direct managers were awesome. At least where I worked, we had plenty of diversity (age/gender/race). Could request or trade schedules with ease.
Cons
HR would confront you if you weren't smiling 100% of the time. Surprisingly, the large majority of your work is spent servicing customers rather than doing your work. Pay was lower compared to other stores (such as Target) despite feeling like you had to do much more work. In the beginning, clerks were allowed to take the sandwiches "too old" for the shelfs before they were trashed. Then they started charging $0.25. Then $0.50. Then it was prohibited entirely. Which is a shame because there is a LOT of food (still good/unspoiled) being wasted in the trash for simply not being made that same day. Unless you're looking for becoming a manager within Hy-Vee, these skills weren't useful anywhere else and are worthless on a resume.
