Pros
Benefits are decent, 401k, health/dental/vision, Hyland will match what you put in the 401k. You're vested after 3 years. Most companies never do this. - Good location. - Their Software is successful. - 24/7 Gym in the basement, 100% free, only you are permitted for its use however. - Free candy/snacks/soda (if you want to get fat) - The Diner makes awesome food... the prices are jacked up though, so Hyland of course makes money even off this. - They'll surprise you with Beer and Chips/Salsa randomly, they throw pretty cool after work parties a couple times a year. - They do a lot of charity work, and help out the communities as much as they can. A lot of donations come out of this place. - They share a lot of the information as to where the money goes that enters the company, they are pretty public about everything which is nice. - Excellent customer facing attitude and dedication. - Having "Hyland Software" on your resume can be a good thing in the Cleveland area.
Cons
Don't be fooled by the slides, they are for show and to give off the funky work hard play hard atmosphere. It's a work hard atmosphere. - Pay is not good across the board. There are more perks than decent pay. Being young without a family, the perks mean nothing when you are trying to start your career and life. Most here (especially in TS and QA) only make 30-35k starting. We help out customer sys admins that make 80k a year doing the same thing. Also, the CTO likes to flaunt his money around and talks down to everyone that isn't in his "click". He purchased a 3 million dollar house on the lake in 2011 and invited the entire company to a party at his house soon after he purchased it. He insisted that you bring your wife and kids to swim in his in door pool.... he does this while everyone around him are making pennies in comparison. We get it, you make a lot of money. - You won't get much of any bonuses until your 2nd year in. - This place is pretty much High School with ash trays. - If you are IT focused and like to be skilled in many different technologies, stay clear... you will be pigeonholed and your main focus will be one line of software. The longer you stay at Hyland, the more "OnBase" is the only thing you know and you are stuck with the horrible pay and forced to conform with the sheep. - The OnBase Resellers/Partners are protected more than the Tech Support Reps. The TS Reps do all of the work and Resellers never follow common protocol and get away with it. - The other departments seem to be arrogant towards TS Reps. - People who apply for team lead positions and don't get it, they end up whining and end up getting the position the next time it's available even though they are not qualified. - Management doesn't let the department know at times when there's an open team leader position. They play sneaky games by giving the whiners the available positions so they will stop complaining. - Any Health Care team across any department is favored over the rest. - A lot of people in QA/Tech Support think they are more technical than they are. - Communication between departments is a joke. Development and QA never understand the urgency of support issues. They just want to collect their pay and go home and never deal with the customers. In the end Tech Support gets the bad end of the stick from this because they are the faces of the organization with support issues. - Developers run the show here, they make the most money and are pretty arrogant to non-developers. They have the equivalent of an Oracle DBA's attitude. - If you speak Spanish you will go up the ladder quick.... you will be favored by the higher ups. - If you smoke cigarettes, you will be able to take 20 minute smoke breaks 5 times a day and nobody will say anything because all of the team leads do the same thing.
