Poor WLB balance. Most of the work is boring and mind numbing data migration. Nothing that would require creativity/ingenuity or look good on a CV. The skills you learn wouldn't really translate for SDE roles if you're into that sort of thing. Most of the workload is bottom tier dreg work which the client devs can't really be bothered to do. Sure, they onboard you with a few big data technologies if you don't have the background but actual project work is just data migration. Internal project managers are parasitic control freaks. 99% of them come from non engineering backgrounds like QA/DBA after getting to the end of that particular ladder. They have little understanding of the technical challenges of development, even less empathy and constantly harass you about deadlines which you had no say in deciding. Lack of projects. Based on tens of conversations around the water cooler, there seems to be a very real lack of projects. They've been hiring like there's no tomorrow and don't really have billable roles for many devs which makes you doomed to ride the bench or be condemned to a non client, internal product project which will be guaranteed to prove a torturous experience. 8 leaves a year. 1 day leave for Diwali. Enough said. When someone brought this up during one of the "town hall" sessions, they were subjected to a snide remark from the management that "we provide 10 casual leaves, use them" in quite a demeaning tone. Poor insurance coverage. Poor Admin facilities. Especially cabs an shuttles. In a nutshell, if you are a hard worker and have no aspirations beyond the above average salary they can provide, Impetus is an amazing firm. I don't mean to disrespect anyone with this remark given that I count myself among the same fraternity. One could build a long career with better pay than most of the devs from WITCH. Even if you aren't promoted the hikes and the salary are great. However, if you're aspirations go beyond the aforementioned paycheck and want challenges that just go beyond poor management and insane deadlines, take my advice and look elsewhere.
