There are very few talented people at the individual contributor level. Most are there just for the paycheck. The culture is flat and management lacks trust in their employees. Mutual respect is not common in the workplace and there are individuals (management and individual contributors alike) who are exceptionally challenging to work with. Aside from a yearly raise that is usually less than half of inflation, there are no incentives for working hard. Growth opportunities for early career employees are artificially limited by internal processes and procedures, and there are no incentives to offset this, leading to zero incentive for entry-level employees to remain at the company.
