Pros
Much better pay than working at Home Depot. Commission Sales and SPIFFs help in adding on additional income for hard work on many projects and installations. More complete job satisfaction working on the whole project for somebody's home improvement project. Much larger library of items that can be ordered for the customer either through Special order Catalogs in the store, or from the vendor directly through "manual" computer orders. Much harder to order SOS items at Home Depot if it was not in our catalog system.
Cons
Because of commission sales and SPIFFs, some departments (especially the high SPIFF incentive department of Appliances) become VERY territorial on their sales, and it can create a very hostile work place. Very hard to work with one customer who wants multiple jobs done for home improvement projects without the customer being "bounced" from one department to another, when sometimes they just want to deal with one sales person for ease and a fast shopping experience. Also, I have had other sales specialists or associates in other departments treat my customers without the same level of commitment that I gave them, and they leave the store very unhappy in the end.
