Pros

Coworkers are amazing. I am generally a person who is not interested in being friends with my coworkers outside of work, but I have made some incredible friendships at Lowes. At some point, my coworkers were the only reason I had not quit.

Cons

I’ve worked at several Lowe’s stores and they are all the same thing. The managers are lazy and will push all their work to the associates and literally show up just to sit in their office and disappear whenever they want, yet they will be so quick to throw you under the bus for something that does not even concern your department. They will dangle a raise and promotion in front of you for ages but they will pay anyone newer than you more than you’re paid. The stores are usually short-staffed and contrary to popular belief, it is not because people don’t want to work. It is because Lowe’s makes you put in a soul crushing amount of effort for what equates to non-existent rewards. There was constantly a revolving door of new associates who were never trained and were just tossed on the sales floor and when those people had enough of the piss-poor attitudes of the supervisors and managements, they left. Meanwhile, the stores would not address the actual issue, which is the company culture, and kept playing that stupid “we’re hiring” ad while actually dragging their feet on hiring and choosing to leave the stores shorthanded. Overall, it’s somewhere I celebrated leaving and I would never step foot in for any type of employment, again.

Pros

Some amazing customers and coworkers. Tasks and systems were easy to learn. Sometimes you get lucky and have amazing ASMs and SMs. It's easy to get a good survey when you treat customers like friends, be honest about what you do and don't know, and work to learn what you don't. That goes a long way with customers. I personally truly loved my job and loved spending as much time as I could at work.

Cons

Once you are on someones S*** List they will make it possible to get rid of you. Management only follows policy when it benefits them. Some people get promoted when they have no business working in retail as a leader. The A/C in the store I worked in was always broken during the summer, which made it miserable to work. Some customers are entitled due to they way management will kiss their butts to keep from losing a sale or getting a bad review. Management will make a paper trail to write you up if you mess up or are struggling instead of helping you better yourself. Management does not care about employees' work-life balance. Management does not care if their employees are struggling with personal issues like car troubles, health issues, financial issues, etc. Management will get rid of great employees but keep people who don't pull their weight. Once I hit burnout, instead of helping me, I was punished by my managers. In turn making me hate a job I truly loved.
