Pros

Fun laid back start up culture. Young age demographic of early 30s. Good work life balance and visibility. Used to have great R&D team to learn from. Very open cross functional groups. Upper mobility potential if you meet a good manager.

Cons

Transparency issues from the upper management. Frequent switch in direction and pipeline projects (not for the better) due to lack of business capability and funding losses. No support for middle managers - clear disconnect between the C suite and managers. Lack of prioritization for talent retention (They didn't have HR for the last 2 years).

Pros

Best benefits I've ever had - fully covered health insurance, a flexible PTO policy + a fully 1-2 weeks off at the end of the calendar year, unlimited sick time, and a flexible day-to-day work schedule, and competitive salary. However, some (mostly poc) were admonished for using PTO while others (mostly white men) took insane amounts of PTO.

Cons

This job gave me nightmares. I had nightmares and stress dreams pretty much the entire time I was at the job. I continued to have nightmares for months after. I left in 2024 and I still have scars on my face from the stress acne it caused. The benefits were the best I’ve ever had at a job, but I’m much less stressed at my current job, though I work longer hours and get paid less. The experience can vary, but overall, management was emotionally abusive, manipulative, neglectful of their own responsibilities, and placed blame on people below them. I am a woman and I noticed other women of color were treated this way too. I was consistently accepted to work late, come in person daily, etc. while others (mostly white people) “worked” from home multiple days and took weeks of PTO (we had a flexible PTO policy). I was ultimately both fired and laid off. They claimed I was underperforming, though I had never had a performance review. Most managers even said not to bother setting any goals. I never had any warnings about my performance and I was at the job for less than 6 months. Additionally, I had completed many projects successfully in that time. I know that a company that prioritizes a sexist, abusive managers will only end up in the gutter.
