Pros
Good salary, opportunity to travel to amazing destinations 1- 2 times per year. Co-workers are intelligent, interesting, passionate and great to work with.
Cons
Extreme micromanagement and disregard for employee morale. Employees are frequently scrutinized and punished for small mistakes, which are often made due to the enormous workload. Work is often unbalanced between departments, which creates tension. Complete lack of encouragement from management - instead they would rather fixate on and rehash old wounds rather than try to improve the conditions that cause problems. Employees' ideas for improving processes, customer service, and efficiency are often ignored if not completely dismissed because "this is how we have always done things". Zero upward mobility. You will working at the same job indefinitely albeit with generous pay increases. Poor work life balance - you are expected to sit at your desk silently working without breaks, any kind of social interaction, or collaboration with your fellow employees, despite the fact that they are extremely knowledgeable and increased cooperation between departments would benefit the company . Vacation black-out dates are common and it takes weeks for them to approve more than 2 days off in a row. Sick days are also frowned upon despite the cloistered conditions where germs are easily spread. They are unaccommodating to things like parental leave, bereavement, and serious illness and instead these situations are treated callously as if employees are personally insulting them for requesting time off. The atmosphere at the office makes you feel like you're constantly under a microscope and that your behaviors are being policed. Poor employee morale has never been addressed and instead you are advised to "just ignore it and go about your business as usual" even though everyone is visibly miserable. Location is terrible as well. Building is run-down and infested with rats. Drug addicts and criminals frequently hang out in the neighborhood and harass you on the way to work. Many female colleagues have expressed concern about leaving the building at night. I have called the cops a few times on people fighting and shooting up outside the office. Sometimes important phone calls with clients are made difficult due to the noise coming from the guitar shop downstairs. Overall, a good experience but a miserable place to work.
