Pros

Overall some of the marchex core conversation analytics team seem like a great group of forward-thinking, smart people who like to have fun.

Cons

The newly acquired companies like Sonar are completely silo-ed and refuse to blend in with Marchex. They maybe owned by Marchex but operate on their own island and refuse to innovate their processes and build a collaborative and authentic culture. Environment is extremely political, fake, unfriendly, toxic and filled with title inflation. Associates/analysts get promoted to director with no skillset and experience required of a director. Leadership is a mess, trying to survive each day drinking out of a fire hose. It truly is a "live in the moment" attitude and no one plans for the future or tries to improve it. You absolutely cannot move the needle on important topics and you feel like you make a negative difference or impact here. There is no unity among teams and cross functional collaboration is a nightmare. The interview process can take over 2 months meeting 10-15 people on the team, but it takes an ego-driven "director" just 3 weeks to "terminate" smart and driven folks because they feel threatened (but in reality have an inability to lead). The interview process was extremely inefficient since you can meet members across the company and get placed under someone who did not interview you, in a role for which you had no Interest. You can be told the position is strategic when in reality it's a glorified and reactive support function. There is no transparency and only red flags (for ex. You were sold on the idea that your spot on the team is a transition step to director because the present director is not strategic or relational and is temporarily filling this role. Begs the question, why are they there then?) When asking for a specific list of kpis and mbos prior to joining, you are told to go with the flow and nothing is given. This company is losing money fast so they are on a leash with their clients. My only regret is not researching their negative reputation sooner. If you have strong skill set and confidence, please look elsewhere. This place is not for those who have innovative and creative ideas. Typically you must be OK with the following: keep quiet and not share any feedback, nod yes to everything, being super uncomfortable in a soul-sucking environment with no hope for a future. You will be overworked and probably underpaid.

The people are nice enough.

Cons

Crap solution that is difficult to sell. CallRail and Invoca have features, integrations, and partners that Marchex lacks. They invest in exhibiting at conferences to acquire clients.
