Pros
Build cool projects, Employee stock included, a lot of smart people Will learn a lot, complex projects. Because of ESOP - the entire company is more invested in success of company. There are some great people there. It’s a national company with a lot of resources. Each region acts as their own company, so you may get different experiences depending on where you work. CEO Ray Sedey is smart and gets it. Overall business model for McCarthy as a national company is very impressive. There is a reason they have a solid reputation. ESOP (employee stock), contributes 19% of salary to employee stock at no cost. Great program and great yearly results to build wealth. Great way to build retirement, especially for those out of college who aren’t thinking about your retirement - forced into the program and you will appreciate it later. Also has lower attrition because of the ESOP (aka golden handcuffs)
Cons
Expect to travel 1.5 to 2 hrs ea way if you live in Bay Area. Few projects in Bay Area which results in long commutes. Also expect to drive past many projects to get to yours. There is also big push to relocate folks to valley or out of state to support mission critical or renewables. Typical construction hours (long) and then add in 3+ hrs of commute. You get 12-14 hr days. New leadership in Bay Area, big disconnect between regional leadership and ops - culture has deteriorated in recent years. Salary and bonuses typically lower than competitors, but is balanced out with esop. Total package very competitive.
