Pros

Good working environment, great benefits, ESOP, good on the job training, technology forward.

Cons

If you’re not one of the select favorites, it’s hard to climb the ladder - particularly as a female. I’ve had several female colleagues leave because they wouldn’t get promoted to the next level despite having the tenure/skill set/experience. There’s also a large disparity in quality of supervisors: During the time I’ve worked for McCarthy, I have had four supervisors - three out of four couldn’t care less about my development/ advancement. One of those three even pushed hard against the employee driving his/her own development. People skills and gender neutrality are still lacking in many instances on a global level.

Pros

Great company culture, exposure to some amazing projects, project teams are fantastic, camaraderie with your team, great resources and onboarding to ensure you learn to do your job well. ESOP and bonuses are great.. if you stick it out long enough.

Cons

Pay is not as competitive as other GC's, you can be relatively underpaid as they rely too heavily on preaching about the ESOP (which takes you 5 years to even be fully vested). Can be very political and leadership kinda plays favorites, some people who dont deserve it get promoted quick and others who do deserve it never get promoted. Long work hours and depending on the jobsite it can be pretty high-stress (but thats just construction for ya).
