Mercy as a corporation is terrible. They make it obvious that they don’t care about employees or patient safety. On the face of it, they hide behind a veil of “Ministry”. Like others, they blame a fictitious nursing shortage, and a “surge” in business for the critical staffing shortage, rather than looking at the enormous pay they afford executives verses the tight wallet they have with clinical, front line, staff. In the moment, they will send patients to the floor, whether there is someone to care for them or not. Lack of experienced staff and refusal to allow time for newer staff to be educated have led to fatal errors in care. I am aware that this is not necessarily unique to Mercy, but I am acutely aware that it is within their power to remedy. They do not appear to want that.
