Pros

Adding luxury retail to your resume is an invaluable experience, learn a lot about exceptional customer service, a great way to learn about high fashion and an excellent opportunity to meet a wide range of incredible, high-ranking people from dramatically different backgrounds.

Cons

The Neiman Marcus hierarchy is a joke. Management only cares about making their numbers and they don't care about you or your feelings. HR will pretend to care about you when you're in their office but when you leave they forget that you even talked to them. My department had over 14 people leave in one year and there were about 6-8 employees in the CUSP department at a given time. You are talked down to and treated like a subhuman even with a college degree. Everyone in my department was absolutely miserable and unless you are a shark you will make next to nothing because you have to accept all returns. Let's face it - accepting all returns means customers wear it and return it and you have to be fake and politely accept it. You have to pretend the customer is always right regardless of how incredibly ridiculous the request is. "The store closes at 8:00pm but you want to stay at 9:30pm to buy one shirt? You got it!"

Pros

* If you have an amazing team and management the day goes by fast. * Commission. * Easy to rely on foot traffic to meet goals. * If you ask for growth, they set thing ups that align with what you want, you just need to ask.

Cons

* If its slow, its SLOW. * There can be drama, it just depends on the department you're in.

Pros

Employee discount and free samples

Cons

A toxic environment where sales are almost zero because vendors are pulling their product off the shelf because their bills aren’t getting paid. They’re in the middle of coming out of a bankruptcy , if a client does come in, we usually don’t have the product to sell them ,only lines who are partially thriving is fragrance ! The hours are terrible. You get off work at nine and you’re expected to be back at 9:30 AM.
