Pros

Free admission to the museum and other museums in Oregon There are good people there with good intentions

Cons

Poorly managed department Not forthcoming with job description and staffing changes Poor/no training on a department level Poorly organized/no documentation of past work, procedures, and deliverables Poor teamwork On a departmental level: They expect you to fix their haphazard organizational structures with zero authority or to endure the disorganization until something important falls through the cracks. On an organizational level: This company does not support the formation of a union, pays their front of house staff extremely poorly, and their upper management is completely disconnected from the people providing key functions for the museum. This leads to an overpaid leadership with very little support and pay for support staff who do most of the work. The antiracism statement is fully performative as it is generally not applied in practice. Believe the low reviews and be careful.

Pros

When management is competent, the experience is great. There's tons of really cool teaching materials (bones, minerals, taxidermy, etc.) donated over the decades. There used to be a really lovely culture of inclusion, history, and community out there. Summer is brutally hot but can also be really fun.

Cons

Management plays favorites, violates safety codes, undermines staff, pits people against each other, and can't open a word document to save their lives. Fire and safety protocol are not clear and misunderstood by the person in charge.
