Pros
Benefits and community were always great, but thanks to the CTO and his suck—up cronies there’s no chance of OVO regaining a Top UK Employer accolade again any time soon.
Cons
How do you go from a too uk employer to the gutter in less than a year? Read on. Since joining as CTO, presumably as a joke parting gift by Raman Bhatia on his way out the door, Guy Duncan has destroyed all credibility, trust, craft, respect, humanity and psychological safety in the tech and product community. I can hardly find the words to describe just how bad things have got so quickly at the hands of a wanton narcissist with zero skill, expertise or empathy. You can claim to justify huge layoffs as a cost cutting measure, but they don’t even say that. They’re forcing out all skilled management in place of over-stretched general support managers on a laughably low salary. They’re sitting back and watching most other skilled individuals with a shred of self respect happily walk out the door than stick around for more foulmouthed tirades from the notorious Guy Duncan. A VP is wheeled out to present a future vision of the new structure, but can’t explain it, can’t justify it, can’t add any credibility to it and dodges all questions that have a hint of challenge. I’m surprised she didn’t just delegate it to one of the many consultants she’s helped to bring in from her former employer. OVO is burning through money on contracts and hires of the CTOs friends and investments, where flying to and from the US and Eastern Europe and hosting 5* offsite, but there’s no promotions or training budgets for normal people for over a year because there’s “nothing left in the budget”. A certain director/c-level has managed to get more wistleblowing reports against him in a couple of years than anyone else ever has at OVO, but instead of being sanctioned or dismissed, he gets promoted by the CTO as reward for sucking up and throwing his own teams under the bus. It’s sickening. The leadership team should be ashamed and I hope their future potential employers look back on these reviews and save themselves a train wreck.
