Pros

-Employee discount (The 50% off at Gap and Banana is awesome) -Tons of hours during Christmas -Easy job to get if it's your first job or you're in high school -Easy to request days off -Very flexible with your schedule due to the INSANE amount of employees -When something cute goes on clearance you can grab it before the customers -Easy to make friends with other employees -Starting salary above minimum wage

Cons

-Extreme variability in weekly hours (one wee 0-4 hours, the next week 30 hours) -Managers play favorites -Managers are gossipy and catty -Forget about ever being on register (the easiest position) if you don't get an obscene amount of Old Navy Cards -High school drama due to the amount of employees who are in high school -Employees making everyone elses lives harder (Dumping clothes when they don't know where they go, hiding messes behind stacks of shirts) -The ridiculous sales that bring in so many people...forget about ever trying to get the store remotely presentable -The fact that management expects the store to look pristine. Sorry I can't keep up with the rude customers ruining the neat piles of shirts I just made. Sometimes I felt like I folded the same table for my entire shift. -Working in the fitting room -Treatment by management. For example, I got called in at 6 am the day after Christmas because we were going to be "busy". When I got there I was told to clean the bathrooms even though we had a janitor on staff. -Management acts as though their employees are incompetent -Ridiculously rude customers who have no problem screaming at you -Customers constantly misread signs so you have to take time out to check the sign (even though you already know the item isn't on sale) only to find the item isn't on sale and to have the customer yell at you about the "false advertising" -Screaming children, bratty children, parents who refuse to control their children and think you also function as a babysitter

Pros

You might meet some lifelong friends! Long tenure if you are willing to give up everything to try to be a successful employee Good EAP program for short term intensive therapy…

Cons

Public criticism, condescending communication, inconsistent accountability, and fear-based management styles became increasingly common. Feedback often felt reactive rather than constructive, and many employees did not feel psychologically safe speaking openly about concerns. There was also a significant lack of consistency between leaders and stores. Expectations changed constantly, communication was often unclear, and favoritism sometimes impacted accountability and decision-making. Long-term employees who consistently stepped up during difficult periods often felt taken for granted rather than appreciated. Reporting to HR will get you no where. You will be gaslit if you choose to speak up.
